Azm-e-Nau Foundation is a non-profit, non-employed, public welfare association dedicated to serve the poor and needy people of Pakistan
The areas lining Sind-Punjab border are among the remotest regions of the country, probably the very reason why it has largely remained out of mainstream development over the years. The local population leads a life that is riddled with numerous problems, commonest among them being the shortage of clean running water, lack of consistent and quality education and scarcity of medical facilities etc.
Azm-e-Nau Foundation is a product of collective thinking and initiative taken by a group of volunteers who are independently employed at Plants of a private fertilizer Company. In the year 2010, Pakistan was struck by floods, submerging major part of Pakistan. As was the larger response of public of Pakistan and many organizations, this group also set-up relief camps for the neighboring communities affected by this flood.
This was their first experience of direct contact with the population dwelling near to their affluent township, bringing to their sight the painful miseries, helplessness and misfortunes. This was an eye opener for this group and hence it was decided by them to channel their resources, energies, skills and time to give something back to the society and bring positive difference, no matter how small, in the lives of the less privileged.
This resolve, crystallized as formation of Azm-e-Nau Foundation in the year 2011.
All of the founding members of Azm-e-Nau work and dwell near Sadikabad and Mirpur Mathelo. Sadikabad is the last town towards the southern tip of the Punjab province, whereas Mirpur Mathelo is situated near the northern tip of Sindh. Due reasons of proximity, Azm-e-Nau initially focused its attention to the village of Mauza Kandair near Sadikabad. As time passed, the Azm-e-Nau spread its wings to include three more villages in Southern Punjab/Northern Sindh.
Due to reason of enormous magnitude of problems being faced by equally huge population, Azm-e-Nau Foundation, instead of pouring in endless resources, decided to take targeted interventions, addressing selected problems for selected communities/ villages. It is anticipated that these grass-root problems, which when resolved, will help people to get on their feet and perpetuate a process of self-growth.
Access to education is an undeniable birthright of every child. Education is the foundation block which if removed shall result in the degeneration of society, slowly dragging it into the oblivion of darkness.
One school was functioning in the community of Moza Kandair. Students were without proper books, notebooks or writing materials. Azm-e-Nau Foundation made arrangements to ensure that students get all the required materials e.g., books and stationary etc. Now two schools (one pre-primary and other primary) having 350 + students are functioning under the umbrella of Azm-e- Nau foundation. In order to further strengthen the system and upgrade it up to 10th grade, contacts are being made with another NGO who specializes in educational matters. Furthermore, as a long term objective, a full scholarship program is being chalked out which shall be extended to students eligible for intermediate and professional level education.
Multiple projects have been carried out to uplift social setup of this village. Some of the successful projects under taken in this area are
- Renovation of Mosque
- Providing of cool drinking water
- Conducting of various social functions
- Construction of Community Park
